frequently asked questions

WHAT MAKES SIGMA PSI ZETA DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS?

Almost all Sororities, Asian-Interest or not, seem very similar on the outside. All sororities have a philanthropy that they believe in and a tradition they uphold. What makes us different is honestly the sisters within our sorority. When deciding which sorority you wish to join, you should think about if you see us as people you can rely on and call a sister. Sisterhood lasts beyond recruitment week, beyond the new member education process and beyond college. It lasts for a lifetime.

I am not asian; can I still participate in recruitment?

Of course! Our sisters come from all cultures, including but not limited to: Haitian, Italian, Thai, Laos, Cambodian, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Indian. Although we are culturally oriented, we are by no means exclusive to just Asian/Asian Americans.

will rushing other sororities hurt my chances at a bid?

Absolutely not. We encourage interested girls to explore and see what their options are. Every girl is different and have different needs. Sisterhood is a lifetime commitment so it is important that you explore and decide if Sigma Psi Zeta is the right choice for you.

what generally happens after recruitment?

Girls interested in becoming a sister must meet a certain requirement of 1 GIM and 2 recruitment events in order to be eligible for an interview. Sigma Psi Zeta also requires potential girls to have a minimum of a 2.7 GPA. At the end of recruitment, sisters will extend out bids.

what is a bid?

A bid is an official invitation to individuals to join our sorority. You can either accept or decline the bid, if extended to you. If you decide to accept the bid, you will have to go through a new member education process in order to become a full fledged sister.

what is the new member education process?

The New Member Education process is a time period where intakes get to know more about the Sorority's history, traditions and beliefs. It is a unique experience that builds leadership and time management skills as well as relationships and memories that will last a lifetime.

does sigma psi zeta haze?

Sigma Psi Zeta enforces a strict non-hazing policy. Our organization's national philanthropy is "To combat violence against women". With this in mind, we are against the disrespect of women in all its myriad forms. The purpose of the new member education process is to help stimulate a bond between the members of the intake class and the sisters that have already been initiated. It is a challenge and a commitment during which trust is placed in both the intakes and the sisters. Subsequently, we do not mentally, physically, or emotionally degrade our intakes. To do so would work against the ties of loyalty, allegiance, and dedication that we aim to create.
